For more info or to RSVP, email: newyorkersforsafetransit@gmail.com New Yorkers for Safe Transit (NYfST) is a collection of organizations and advocates dedicated to eliminating harassment and assaults—particularly gender or discrimination based—on public transportation in New York City. The coalition focuses on raising public awareness, community building, and facilitating changes that ensure New Yorkers can get from one location to another safely and securely. White House Advisor on Violence Against WomenProps to the Obama administration for creating a new White House advisory position on violence against women! The new appointee, Lynn Rosenthal, was most recently Executive Director of the New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and from 2000 to 2006 was Executive Director of the National Network to End Domestic Violence . While I’m thrilled about the creation of the position, I hope that issues of sexual violence won’t fail by the wayside, given Rosenthal’s strong background in domestic violence issues and the overall political tendency to focus on domestic, as opposed to sexual, violence.
