Sexual Violence Funding Crisis

UPDATE: New York City Alliance staff members and rape crisis providers have started a discussion with the City Council regarding the need to restore sexual violence initiative funding. Check back frequently for progress & updates.

The New York City Council has eliminated all funding to sexual violence victim services and prevention. By doing so, the Council has turned its back on the needs of victims and on prevention programming that is essential for promoting the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers.

The choice to eliminate all funds to sexual violence programming represents just .001% of the city’s $63.1 billion budget.

We must educate our public officials about the critical importance of the victim services, outreach, education and prevention programming that these organizations provide.

Sexual violence is a public health and human rights issue.

We need your help. Contact City Council Members and Speaker Quinn and urge them to restore this critical funding.
