Community Activists ENVISION-ing A City Free From Sexual Violence

Dedicated volunteers have begun donating their time by participating in an extensive series of Community Activist Training sessions aimed at learning how to work within their Project ENVISION Coalition teams to begin the process of prevention and change. Project ENVISION is a six-year citywide project between the Alliance and 11 NYC Rape Crisis Programs aimed at changing the behaviors that promote and permit sexual violence so that we ultimately see a reduction in sexual violence. During these intensive training sessions, totaling more than 35 hours, community activists are working on taking the steps into leadership roles within their communities in the context of Project ENVISION. The Alliance is happy to be a facilitator in this project, creating a learning environment where genuine dialogue is taking place. If you live in one of the Project ENVISION Coalition communities (Lower East Side, Manhattan; Highbridge/Morrisanna section of the South Bronx, or Williamsburg, Brooklyn) and would like to become involved, please email envision@svfreenyc.org.

Photovoice Project Underway

The Alliance's Youth Action Council conducted two-day training workshops throughout the month of May for Through Our Own Eyes, Young People Envisioning A City Without Sexual Violence. Participants learned how to operate donated digital cameras, how to begin conveying their thoughts and ideas about sexual and dating violence through the creation of digital images and also how to analyze the photos in order to use them for advocacy. At the conclusion of the project a photo exhibit showing the work of these young people will be open to other youth, youth serving organizations, policymakers and the public.
